Broker's Comments
Although of a standard design, this particular example of the East Anglian Restricted Class was built to Lloyds +100 A1 for a trip to Australia which never took off. She was kept to +100A1 until 1990 when she was voluntarily removed from the register.
Buchanan designed the East Anglian for a committee of yachtsmen who represented the yacht clubs on the East Coast. They wanted a comfortable cruising boat for four people which was shallow draughted, yet seaworthy enough for the short steep seas of the East Coast. The sail plan is modest; 275sqft (25m2), yet the boats perform well in light winds and can hold their own in club races. The East Anglians are good all-rounders, and for a wooden yacht of that era are attractive and capable. This example was constructed originally of the finest materials and her current owner was a college teacher who specialised in traditional (wooden) yacht construction!
